Welcome to Nerdyfae Tales!

 Hello, my lovely friends!

Welcome to my new blog.  I have made random blog posts in the past. But I am now starting a fresh, new blog specifically for my small business projects and adventures.

I have been making fairy wings since 2007 and other fantasy inspired costume accessories and gifts since since college.  My wings are individually made from scratch by bending steel wire and stretching nylon fabric over the base.  I hand stain the background colors onto both sides of the wings with a brush, then once they are dry, I hand painting the lines (I call it veining) onto both sides of the wings.

My wings are inspired by nature, specifically butterflies and moths and I often reference photos of real insects when creating my work.

Over the years, I have developed methods for creating wings that are high quality and long lasting.  My wings are water and tear resistant and the U shaped wire base helps them to be poseable and easy to wear.

I started working with partner, Calvin, in 2013 and he has helped me perfect my wing making methods.  Calvin helped me create and perfect our U bend base design, and has created wooden peg board jigs for each of my original wing shapes.

We make other wares as well, including merfolk crowns and hair clips, knitted and crocheted hats and arm warmers, crocheted bearded plushies, and wire fairy ear cuffs. Each year, we add new items to our inventory.

We are now running this small business and making product to sell at our festival booths full time.  We produce wings and other costume accessories from our home workshop in MN all year long. We are products to sell at our shop, #612 at the MN Renaissance Festival from mid August through the end of Sept every year.  We also have a booth at the Twin Cities Pride Festival.
